Vehicle Overview: Today, we will share a repair case about the old Lexus LS460 fog lights not coming on. The customer reported that after turning on the fog lights, the fog light indicator on the dashboard came on, but the actual front fog lights car did not light up. According to this case, we started a detailed inspection and repair.

Preliminary Diagnosis

First, with the information provided by the customer, we confirmed that the instrument indicator lights come on normally when the fog lights switch is turned on, indicating that there may be no problem with the fog light switch portion of the circuit. However, the front yellow fog lights do not come on, indicating that current may not be passing through the fog light wiring properly.

Checking the fuses and connectors

Based on the wiring diagram of the Lexus LS460, we first checked the parts of the circuit related to the fog lights. In particular, we noticed that pin 5 of the 2G connector in the front fuse box serves as the signal input, while pins 15 and 21 of the 2C connector serve as the signal output. This information helps us understand the workflow of the circuit.

Disassembling the engine compartment fuse box

Next, we went into the engine compartment, disassembled the fuse box and inspected the associated connectors and fuses. Upon closer inspection, we found that some of the connectors may have loose or oxidized connections, which could result in the signal not being effectively transmitted to the fog lights .

Checking the fog light control IC

In further troubleshooting, we located the fog lights car control IC (integrated circuit) inside the fuse box, which is responsible for regulating the switching of the fog lights. We found that this IC had some malfunction, resulting in an abnormal signal output.

Repair and replacement

After checking and confirming, we replaced the damaged fog light control IC and recleaned the connector section. The fuse and connector were then tightened to ensure that each connection was secure and free of looseness.

Testing and confirming the repair

Once the repair was completed, we restarted the vehicle and turned on the fog lights. After testing, the fog lights illuminated properly, the instrument indicator lights then worked properly, and all circuits were restored to their intended function.

Summary

Through careful inspection of the Lexus LS460 fog light circuit, we found that the problem lies in the control IC and connector connection part. After replacing the damaged IC and repairing the connector, the fog lights return to normal operation. If your Lexus LS460 fog light has similar problems, you can refer to the above repair steps to troubleshoot. Timely detection and repair of circuit problems will ensure the normal use of the yellow fog lights function and provide protection for safe driving.
