Function Description
The parkave bmw helps the driver to move into longitudinal parking spaces, transverse parking spaces and diagonal empty spaces. In addition, the bmw parking assistant supports the driver when leaving a longitudinal parking space if the parking assistant has previously been used to enter the parking space.
The automated parking system measures possible parking spaces when passing at a driving speed of up to 36 km/h and a distance of up to approx. 1.5 m. If a parking space with sufficient length and distance is recognized, the automated parking system measures the distance to the parking space and the distance to the parking space. If a parking space of sufficient length and width is recognized, this is displayed to the driver with the parking screen in the central information display open. When the maximum driving speed does not exceed 36 km/h, the empty parking space search is continuously activated even if the automated parking system is deactivated.
Depending on the equipment, BMW Parking Assistant offers 2 function modes.
Parking parkave bmw with lateral control (for vehicles with manual transmission)
Parking parkave bmw with longitudinal control and lateral control (for vehicles with automatic transmission)
In the case of the bmw parking assistant with lateral control, the automated parking system actively takes over lateral control of the vehicle. Longitudinal control (acceleration and braking) is the responsibility of the driver. If a parking assistant with longitudinal and lateral control is used, theautomated parking system actively takes over the vehicle's lateral and longitudinal control. In both cases, the driver is supported during parking by operating instructions on the central information display. The driver remains responsible for the entire parking process.

Operation of functions
The operation of the functions described relates to the initial model G05 of the Service Pack, 2018. possible changes to the HMI on the basis of improved development are not documented here. The operation of the functions in this case can be found in the user manual.
Attention! It is not necessary to keep pressing the parking assistant button to operate the parking assistant
The bmw parking assistant for entering or leaving a parking space can be activated as follows.
1. The vehicle is parked and in the PWF state ‘driving’.
2. Put the vehicle into drive ‘R’ or reverse and activate the bmw parking assistant in the central information display. Alternatively, press the parking assistant button.
3. Only for vehicles without SA6U3 ‘BMW Live Front Cockpit Pro’: Confirm the recommended parking space by turning the direction of travel indicator to the appropriate parking direction. Vehicles with SA6U3 ‘BMW Live Front Cockpit Pro’ only: Select the recommended parking space via the touchscreen controls or the controls on the central information display.
4. Vehicles with manual transmission: takes over longitudinal control of the vehicle.
5. The end of the parking process is displayed in the central information display.
The signal tone for suitable empty parking spaces can be switched on or off as follows
1. {CAR}
2. Adjustment
3. General Settings
4. Tone
5. Parking aid
6.Empty Parking Space Tone

Function prerequisites
- Vehicle is parked and in PWF state ‘travelling’
- The travelling speed for the empty space search does not exceed 36 km/h.
- Functional prerequisites for automatic parking: 1.
1. The automated parking system has found a suitable parking space.
2. The vehicle must be stationary.
3. The parking assistant must have been activated.
4. The driver has selected an empty parking space. Once the driver releases the brake pedal, the automatic parking process begins.
- Functional prerequisites for pulling out of a longitudinal parking space:
1. An obstacle is recognised in front of the vehicle being driven.
2. The empty space is at least 1 m longer than the vehicle being driven.
3. The vehicle was previously moved into the parking space with the aid of the bmw parking assistant.
4. The parking assistant is not available when driving with a trailer is recognised.
This function is automatically deactivated in the following cases; however, it can be continued once the necessary boundary conditions are met again.
Manual steering by the driver
There is an obstacle that is difficult to negotiate (e.g. a kerbstone)
When the parking brake is engaged
Manual pressing of the gear selector button (only on vehicles with automatic transmission)
Manual operation of the accelerator pedal (vehicles with automatic transmission only)
Manually operate the accelerator pedal for a certain period of time
Turn the direction of travel indicator to the opposite direction of the parking process
Manual operation of the accelerator pedal (vehicles with automatic transmission only) With the doors open
When the driver's seat belt is removed
Exceeding the maximum permissible speed when using the parkave bmw assistant with lateral control only
Deactivating the parkave bmw assistant via the checkbox in the central information display
This function is automatically deactivated and cannot be continued in the following cases
When the tailgate is open
When the maximum number of tows is exceeded during parking
When slippage is recognised
The uphill gradient is too steep
The downhill gradient is too steep
When travelling with a trailer is recognised during this period
The ultrasonic sensor is affected by an external sound and loses its recognition ability The vehicle is parked for a longer period of time with the parking assistant activated.
Possible system limitations
Ultrasonic sensors are affected by extraneous sounds and lose recognition.
Extreme cold weather (slow steering)
Steep uphill grades
Steep downhill grades
Sloping road surface
Misaligned axle shape
Hints
Individual ranges of functions may not be available or may be available on a limited basis depending on country specifications or production times.
Depending on the countryspecific customization of the vehicle and vehicle equipment, the specified values in this function description may vary.
