Malfunction description:
Recently, we received a feedback from a customer that the instrument panel of the vehicle shows “Intelligent Lighting System stopped working”, and the left headlight cannot switch between high and low beam modes. This type of problem not only affects driving safety, but also may lead to limited visibility at night. Below, we will analyze the diagnosis and repair process of this fault in detail.

Fault Diagnosis
1. Initial inspection:
◦ Vehicle computer testing using a diagnostic instrument reveals a fault code of B284D71 indicating that there is a malfunction in the light distribution actuator motor and that the actuator is holding.
2. disassemble the car headlights assembly:
◦ To further confirm the problem, we decided to disassemble the left headlight assembly.
◦ Challenge: The headlight panel of this model has a complex design and is difficult to disassemble. After a day's effort by the technical master, we finally succeeded in removing the headlight panel.
3. Lens inspection:
◦ After disassembly, the car headlight lens part was found to be severely damaged.
◦ Cause analysis: The high temperature caused deformation of the lens material after the headlight was turned on for a long time. This situation indicates that the lens design suffers from insufficient heat dissipation and is a design defect.
4. Parts replacement:
◦ After confirming the deformation of the lens, we searched for a suitable lens assembly through our supplier.
◦ Problem: The model of the lens assembly found is slightly different from the original, and cannot be directly replaced.
◦ Solution: The technical team crried out a small modification to ensure that the new lens could perfectly fit the original headlight assembly.
Maintenance Process
Replace the lens assembly:
◦ Install the new modified lens and the assembly back into the headlight.
Testing and commissioning:
◦ After completing the installation, the headlight system was fully tested.
◦ The results show that the left side headlamp high beam and low beam switching function is back to normal, and the Intelligent Lighting System in the dashboard is reactivated, eliminating the fault code.
Repair Summary
In this repair case, the failure of the intelligent lighting system mainly originated from the actuator locking due to high temperature deformation of the headlight lens. Through professional diagnostic tools and experienced technical team, we successfully located and solved the problem.
