Refill a Drained Cooling System Under Vacuum
A vacuum purge and refill kit for antifreeze changes: it seals the radiator filler opening, pulls a vacuum on the drained cooling system, then lets that vacuum draw fresh coolant in from a container. An air supply is needed to create the vacuum.

How to Use
- Drain the systemDrain as much of the old coolant from the radiator as possible.
- Seal the filler openingSeal the cooling system filler opening with the adapter and lock the tool’s quick coupler onto it.
- Set the valvesOpen the air valve and keep the coolant valve closed.
- Pull a vacuumConnect the air supply and let the tool draw a vacuum on the system, then close the air valve and stop the air flow.
- Prime the coolant hoseAttach the coolant hose and submerge its free end in fresh coolant, making sure the hose is full of coolant.
- RefillOpen the coolant valve and let the vacuum pull coolant into the system until the flow stops.
- Top upCheck the coolant level and add coolant as needed to reach the proper level.
Steps follow the standard vacuum purge-and-refill procedure for this type of tool. Valve layout can differ between kits, so follow the markings on your tool.
Good to Know
Caution
- Never remove the radiator cap while the cooling system is hot.
- Wear goggles, protective gloves and protective clothing while working.
- A compressed-air supply is required to pull the vacuum.
Care
- Clean the tools after each use; they are designed to be easy to clean and maintain.
