Smoke Leak Testing with Pressure and Flow Feedback You Can Adjust
The SDT205S checks the connected line in Air Mode while you watch the pressure gauge and flow meter, then switches to Smoke Mode to show where it escapes. A built-in pump runs from the vehicle’s 12 V battery, and a knob sets airflow, not pressure. Not for direct high-pressure A/C testing.
- Air Mode / Smoke Mode
- Pressure Gauge + Flow Meter
- Adjustable Airflow
- Built-In Pump
- Oil Drain Valve
Key Features
-
Air and Smoke Modes
Use Air Mode for pressure and flow checks, then Smoke Mode for visual leak location.
-
Pressure and Flow Monitoring
The gauge shows line pressure, where a falling reading points to a leak, and the flow meter window shows airflow through the line.
-
Flow Adjustment Knob
Match airflow to the connected test line; output pressure stays fixed.
-
Fast Smoke
Smoke starts in about 5 seconds and can fill the line in about 30 seconds, depending on volume and sealing.
-
Low-Pressure System Coverage
EVAP, vacuum, intake, exhaust, crankcase, fuel-tank, body-seal and line-fitting checks with matching adapters.
-
Oil Drain Valve
Drain old testing oil before refilling for cleaner maintenance and steadier smoke output.

How to Use
- Add testing oilFill 10โ15 mL of baby oil or liquid paraffin; do not overfill.
- Open the regulatorGently open the airflow regulator valve and select Air Mode or Smoke Mode.
- Connect the test lineDisconnect the line to be tested and connect it to the detector.
- Connect powerConnect to a 12 V DC vehicle battery and turn on the power switch.
- Observe pressure and flowWatch the gauge and flow meter, adjusting airflow carefully for the line and setup.
- Locate leaksOnce smoke enters the line, look for escaping smoke, using a headlamp if needed; repair and retest.

Good to Know
Caution
- Testing oil is not included.
- Do not run continuously for more than 8 minutes; let the unit cool before restarting after overheat shutdown.
- It cannot directly pressure-test an automotive A/C system; do not introduce smoke into high-pressure systems or components the service procedure excludes.
- The round metal housing can get hot during use.
- Never refill testing oil while the unit is running, and drain excess oil before operating if overfilled.
Care
- If no smoke appears, recheck access, isolation, valve state and flow before moving to another test method.
FAQ
Can I adjust the pressure?
No. Output pressure is fixed; the knob controls airflow only. For separate Standard and EVAP pressure modes, compare the SDT208.
How can smoke help on an isolated A/C line section?
Isolate and pressurize the section per the service procedure, then apply smoke near the suspected area; if escaping air disturbs the smoke, inspect that spot.
