Check Pressure With Air, Then Find the Leak With Smoke
The SDT205 has its own air pump and pressure gauge, so it runs from a 12 V battery without shop air. Air Mode monitors pressure without adding smoke; Smoke Mode reveals the leak path on permitted low-pressure systems. Testing oil is not included.
- Air + Smoke Modes
- Built-In Air Pump
- Pressure Gauge
- Oil Drain Valve
- Fault Indicator
Hauptmerkmale
-
Separate Air and Smoke Modes
Independent switches: use Air Mode to watch pressure, then Smoke Mode to locate the leak visually.
-
Pressure-Gauge Feedback
Watch pressure change on the gauge; a pressure drop may indicate a line leak that needs further inspection.
-
Fast Smoke Start
Produces smoke in about 5 seconds; allow about 30 seconds for the connected line to fill.
-
No Compressor Needed
The integrated air pump saves setup time and suits mobile repair.
-
Low-Pressure Leak Checks
Intake, exhaust, vehicle sealing, fuel tank, line fittings, EVAP and vacuum systems.
-
Workshop-Friendly Design
A compact body with handle, plus cone and airbag adapters, an oil drain valve for oil service and a fault light for status.

Anwendung
- Add testing oilFill 10–15 mL of baby oil or liquid paraffin before use without overfilling.
- Connect the test lineDisconnect the line to be tested and connect it to the detector.
- Connect powerClamp onto a 12 V DC battery and turn on the power switch.
- Check with airUse Air Mode and watch the gauge for a pressure change.
- Locate leaksSwitch to Smoke Mode, let the line fill and inspect for escaping smoke, using a headlamp if needed.
- Confirm and retestCheck the escape path against the system layout, repair the verified leak and repeat the same test.

Good to Know
Caution
- Output is fixed and cannot be adjusted; use the gauge to monitor pressure and stay within the vehicle or component service limit.
- Not for direct pressure testing of automotive A/C systems, which operate at about 1.7–3.0 MPa.
- Do not introduce smoke into any system the service procedure excludes from smoke testing.
- Do not run continuously for more than 8 minutes; overheat protection cuts power above 75°C, so let the unit cool before restarting.
- Never refill testing oil while the unit is running; drain some oil before operation if overfilled.
- Avoid touching the metal housing when it is hot.
Care
- Refill only when the smoke becomes thin: drain the old oil first and add no more than 15 mL at a time.
FAQ
Can I use the SDT205 as an EVAP smoke machine?
Yes. Use the EVAP adapter or service tool that matches the vehicle test port.
How can smoke help on an isolated A/C line section?
First isolate and pressurize the line section according to the service procedure, then apply smoke near it. If escaping air disturbs the smoke, inspect that area for a leak.
What if no smoke appears?
Verify access, isolation, valve state and smoke delivery before moving to functional diagnosis or another test method.
