Self-Contained Smoke Leak Testing You Can Carry Between Bays
The SDT50 runs from a 12 V vehicle battery and has its own air pump, so no shop air is needed. Smoke starts in about five seconds for visual tracing of permitted low-pressure leaks in intake, exhaust, fuel-tank, crankcase, seal, fitting and coolant-tank paths.

- <10 psi Output
- 12 V DC Power
Hauptmerkmale
-
No External Air Supply
The built-in pump supplies the test airflow, keeping setup simple wherever the vehicle is.
-
Fast Smoke Start
Smoke generation starts in about 5 seconds, and a connected test line fills with smoke in about 30 seconds.
-
Wide Range of Leak Checks
Crankcase, oil seals, intercooler air, throttle valve, intake manifold, exhaust, fuel tank, line fittings and coolant tank.
-
Light and Portable
The compact main unit takes little storage space and is easy to carry for mobile diagnostics.
-
High and Low Temperature Protection
Automatic power-off at 75 °C, with operation supported down to -20 °C.
-
Grouped Controls
Filling port, smoke indicator switch, hook port, power socket and smoke outlet sit together on the unit for quick setup.

Anwendung
- Add testing oilFill 10–15 mL of baby oil or liquid paraffin before first use; do not exceed this range.
- Connect the test lineDisconnect the line you want to test and connect it to the smoke hose, with the detector near the test area.
- Power onConnect to a 12 V DC battery, confirm the hose and test line are secure, then turn on the power switch.
- Locate leaksOnce the line fills with smoke, look for escaping smoke; use a headlamp if needed.
- Repair and retestConfirm the escape path against the system layout, repair the leak and repeat the same test.

Good to Know
Caution
- Testing oil is not included; use liquid paraffin or baby oil.
- Do not run the unit continuously for more than 8 minutes. After an overheat shut-off, let it cool before restarting.
- The round metal housing gets hot during use; avoid touching it.
- Never refill testing oil while the unit is running.
- Do not introduce smoke into any system the vehicle or component service procedure excludes from smoke testing.
- The SDT50 does not measure pressure or airflow.
Care
- Replace the testing oil regularly and drain old oil before adding fresh oil.
- Top up only when the smoke becomes thin, adding no more than 15 mL at a time.
