Smoke-Test Low-Pressure Systems With No Shop Air
The SDT102 runs from a 12 V vehicle battery and fills the test section with smoke from its built-in pump, while the pressure gauge shows whether pressure is holding. Use it on EVAP, vacuum, intake, exhaust, crankcase and other low-pressure systems; it cannot pressure-test an A/C system.
- Built-In Air Pump
- Pressure Gauge
- 12 V Battery Power
- EVAP Compatible
- <10 psi Output
Key Features
-
Gauge Leak Check
Watch the gauge for pressure changes to judge whether the connected line may be leaking, then trace the escaping smoke.
-
No External Compressor
The built-in pump supplies the test airflow, which saves setup time in the bay or at home.
-
EVAP Detection
Works on 1996+ American vehicles when connected with EVAP service tools that match the vehicle test port.
-
Intake, Exhaust and Turbo Paths
Vacuum, intake, exhaust and low-pressure turbo systems, plus intercooler air paths.
-
Crankcase, Seals and Tanks
Crankcase, oil seals, engine sealing areas, fuel and coolant tanks and line fittings, where the service procedure permits smoke testing.
-
Temperature Protection
Overheat and low-temperature protection guard the unit.

Good to Know
Caution
- It cannot directly pressure-test an automotive A/C system; smoke can only serve as a visual aid on an isolated line section where the service procedure permits.
- Run no longer than the continuous limit and let the unit cool before restarting; the round metal housing gets hot.
- Never refill testing oil while the unit is running, and drain excess oil before use if overfilled.
- Stay within the pressure allowed by the vehicle or component service procedure.
Care
- Refill only when the smoke becomes thin, and drain the remaining oil before adding fresh oil.
- If no smoke appears, recheck isolation, flow and the test setup before moving on.
